The Gandy Dancer Restaurant in Ann Arbor, Michigan offers a unique dining experience within an architectural landmark. Originally built in 1886, the Michigan Central Depot Ann Arbor underwent a beautiful restoration to become what is now, simply, an overpriced restaurant that does not live up to a fraction of it’s potential. ANN ARBOR, MI — A very popular local “Latin inspired” restaurant that truly disappoints. Cafe Habana serves “Cuban and Latin inspired food and drinks” at three Michigan locations; Ann Arbor, Royal Oak, and Traverse City. Although very, very busy throughout the night, Cafe Habana’s Ann Arbor location provided Fat Freddy sub-par drinks and uninspired dishes.

We all know the key to Fat Freddy’s heart is cannoli. We also know Fat Freddy loves pizza. So what happens when the love of cannoli meets good New York style pizza? Well, if you’re in Ann Arbor, Michigan — the answer is Bella Italia Pizza & Pasta.

When I ordered a steak from Peter Luger Steak House, I received the best steak I have ever eaten.

[start digression]

I don’t usually start a review with the quick one-liner, and I usually don’t wait 2 years to write a review. But then again, Brooklyn’s Peter Luger Steak House is not your usual steak house. And why did I ever wait 2 years to write a review about the best steak I ever ate? It all begins with my very good friend Ricardo Barrenechea.

Zaxby’s gains points for atmosphere… but atmosphere alone does not make a happy Fat Freddy.

When you first walk into Zaxby’s, you’ll notice a clean, well kept restaurant– the best way I can describe it is Fast Food Style without the Fast Food. Think of it as Applebee’s meets McDonald’s.

It’s no secret that Fat Freddy loves a family owned restaurant. Sure, every now and then one can take comfort in knowing that no matter where you are in the world, a McDonald’s French Fry will taste like a McDonald’s French Fry… but… even better than that is a family owned restaurant that is unique, comfortable, and genuinely a great place to eat.

Senor Burrito achieves this– and more!

It’s no secret that I love Chinese food. Unfortunately, it seems as though good Chinese is hard to come by. Unless of course, you know of Kanton Kanton.

Kanton Kanton, located in beautiful Davie, is what I warm-heartedly refer to as a hole in the wall- the dining room won’t accommodate more than 50 or so, and unless you know of it, you’re probably going to pass them by (which would be an incredible mistake).

In South Florida, restaurants come and go very quickly. There’s a local saying the if you like a restaurant today, it may not be here tomorrow. So when a Ice Cream Parlor has managed to attract masses of people since 1956, you can safely bet that the food will be very, very good.

Lately everywhere I look, “New York Style” describes everything from Chinese food to Sub places. In my mind, this is only appropriate when describing pizza; after all even thin people know that Chicago style and NY style are worlds apart. I’ve eaten Chinese food on both coasts (and a whole bunch of places in-between) and don’t understand how New York style Chinese is different than the Chinese food I’ve eaten in San Francisco, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Michigan, or even Italy.

Anyway, I digress…
