A Fat Freddy Favorite
It’s no secret that Fat Freddy loves a family owned restaurant. Sure, every now and then one can take comfort in knowing that no matter where you are in the world, a McDonald’s French Fry will taste like a McDonald’s French Fry… but… even better than that is a family owned restaurant that is unique, comfortable, and genuinely a great place to eat.
Senor Burrito achieves this– and more!
Just north of Glades on Federal Highway, you have to look hard for Senor Burrito. If you don’t look hard, you’ll drive right on by. It’s a small restaurant, maybe only having 5 – 7 booths and a bar that can seat six or so. You’ll probably notice the line of people waiting outside for a table, and no, they don’t take reservations.
When seated, you’re immediately presented with homemade tortilla chips and salsa; and eat ‘em up– they’ll bring more. We generally go through about three baskets.
Start with an appetizer. Not because the entrees aren’t filling, but mostly because the food is just that good. If you’re willing to go fried, I recommend the Flautas; great chicken wrapped tortillas fried until crispy. If sour cream is a negative (as it is for Fat Freddy), make sure you request it without or on the side. By default, most dishes are garnished with generous portions of both Sour Cream and Guacamole.
For the main meal, you can’t go wrong with a Burrito (after all this is Senor Burrito’s), but the regular entrees are also very good. The fajita’s are served on a steaming grill and are never disappointing.
The menu fits on the front of one very tall sheet, and I’m proud to say that there are only one or two entrees that I haven’t tried. I’ve enjoyed everything I have ever ordered and the hardest choice is deciding what to order.
Pricing is great — all entrees are under 10 bucks. No hard liquor, but they have beer and wine; including both dark and regular Dos Equis.
If you have room for dessert, I’ve heard the Flan is good– although I’ve never tried it. Why? The Cannoli Kitchen is only 30 feet away. :)
